Charity cafe to host quiz, cake sale and stay open after midnight during referendum

A social enterprise café is to remain open into the early hours of Friday morning to enable customers to watch the referendum drama unfold.

Edinburgh’s Serenity Café, a community cafe run by people in recovery from drugs and alcohol, will also be holding a quiz night on Thursday 18 September at 9pm.

And on Friday from 11 am to 3 pm the café will stage its bake sale with a range of cakes baked by volunteers and staff who practiced all summer during the charity’s Cake Wars Challenge.

Catriona Grant, project manager at the cafe said: “There has so much debate about the referendum that what ever way it goes we want to be part of this important moment in Scotland’s political history.

“We are well placed to be a safe and fun place for folks in Edinburgh to see what happens or for those who just want to be part of it.

“It will be fun whether you are celebrating or commiserating.”

The Serenity Cafe can be found at Jackson’s Entry, next to BBC Scotland, at 111 Holyrood Road.
