World first as air ambulance charity uses Street View to conduct base tours

A unique Scottish charity is welcoming the world into its base through the web.

In what it’s billing a world first, Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) is inviting people to take a tour of its HQ through Google Maps on their computers.

Organisers say the tour of the SCAA’s Perth Airport base is the first of an air ambulance base anywhere on the planet.

Virtual visitors to its HQ will meet its new mascot – helicopter hero Captain SCAA – alongside the rest of the team.

The charity is using Street View technology to allow anyone interested in finding out what happens at SCAA to walk in through the front door and take a tour around 24/7, even on their smartphone, in the same way they walk around the streets in Google Maps’ Street View.

We are delighted to have this fantastic new piece of technology which allows the public to take a tour of our base at Perth Airport

All they have to do is go to the SCAA website or Facebook page, where a live interactive link to the tour in Street View has been embedded. Or search for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance in Google Maps or Google+ and click the box marked See Inside.

When they do they’ll meet Captain SCAA and see how his efforts, from fundraising to flying the helicopter, help the whole team save lives all over Scotland.

The tour was created by award-winning Scottish Google photography franchise Mr Droogle, which has also donated tours to other third sector bodies, such as Forfar Resource Centre and Murton Trust & Farm.

Sally Cameron, SCAA head of fundraising, said: “We are delighted to have this fantastic new piece of technology which allows the public to take a tour of our base at Perth Airport.

“We are hugely grateful to Mr Droogle for donating this cutting edge marketing tool.”

SCAA was formed in 2012 and launched its helicopter air ambulance in May 2013 to assist the Scottish Air Ambulance Service to deliver front-line care to time-critical emergencies across Scotland.

The charity’s provides fully equipped medical helicopter can be deployed from Perth Airport to incidents across the length and breadth of Scotland.

You can view the SCAA tour on their website or directly in Google Maps.
