Fight For Sight is delighted to be literary event's charity beneficiary

Sight loss charity Fight for Sight has been chosen as the Wigtown Book Festival’s official benefitting charity.

The Scottish multiple award-winning book festival will take place from 26 September to 5 October 2014.

This year marks the 16th annual festival and Fight for Sight was also named benefitting charity for the 2012 and 2013 events.

Michele Acton, chief executive of Fight for Sight and Wigtown resident, said: "It’s fantastic to have been named as Wigtown Book Festival’s chosen charity.

Fight for Sight does incredible work and this is an opportunity for our visitors to learn more about what they do

"It’s a huge platform to raise vital awareness of Fight for Sight and our pioneering eye research.

“The festival gives us a great opportunity to reach out to the Scottish community. As ever we’re grateful to the organisers and I’m very much looking forward to attending the book festival.”

Adrian Turpin, director of Wigtown Book Festival, said: “With a ten day packed programme of talks and activities we believe that this year’s Wigtown Book Festival has more incentive than ever for visitors to come and stay for the whole festival.

“Fight for Sight does incredible work and this is an opportunity for our visitors to learn more about what they do.”

There will be a whole host of authors and broadcasters supporting the event, including Clare Balding and comedians Fred MacAulay and Francesca Martinez.

The ten-day festival has more than 200 events set in the stunning surroundings of Dumfries and Galloway countryside.

There will be events and debates with the authors, farm and castle visits, cycling under the stars, whisky-tasting, food-foraging and a spectacular procession devised by artists' collective The Stove.
