Risk and Recovery: Identifying, Responding and Supporting Women with Experience of Domestic Abuse

Cost: £95 per statutory sector delegate/£75 per voluntary sector delegate/£60 Cedar group-worker, inclusive of buffet lunch

In considering support issues for women experiencing domestic abuse it is vital that issues of risk and recovery are balanced. This session will cover a range of support issues that promote the health and well-being of women experiencing domestic abuse.

By the end of the session delegates will:

• Understand the reasons why it is difficult for some woman to talk about their experiences and sometimes for workers to ask
• Be able to address the barriers stopping workers asking about Domestic Abuse
• Feel confident in asking about Domestic Abuse and how to respond including carrying out out risk assessment and initial safety planning discussions
• Understand the impact of experiencing trauma
• Implement supportive responses to those affected by trauma

Facilitator - Heather Williams was manager at Ross-shire Women's Aid for 8 years and was a member of the Highland Violence Against Women Partnership, during this time she was involved in the development and delivery of aside variety of violence against women training to multi-agency professionals.
