Supporting Transgender People Experiencing Domestic Abuse

Cost: £45 per statutory sector delegate/£35 per voluntary sector delegate/£15 Cedar group-worker, inclusive of buffet lunch

This half day training session has been designed for delegates who already have an understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse and wish to learn more about its impacts and support implications for transgender people.

By the end of the session delegates will have had the opportunity to:

• Increase their awareness of the issues facing transgender people
• Reflect on the nature of homo/bi/transphobia and consider ways in which to challenge discrimination
• Reflect on current practice and policy
• Increase their understanding of the dynamics and impacts of transgender people’s experiences of domestic abuse

Facilitator: Janice Stevenson works within LGBT Youth Scotland’s National Programmes and Influencing Team as Development Officer and Domestic Abuse Support Worker. Janice brings experience supporting LGBT survivors of domestic abuse through the FearLess service and supporting LGBT young people to engage with professionals on LGBT people’s experiences of gender based violence to her engaging training delivery.
