Popular charity event goes online

Beatson Cancer Charity is going virtual with its seventh annual Off the Beatson Track in August. After careful deliberation, the charity has decided to host the mass participation event online and change to a virtual challenge to prioritise the health and safety of the community during this time. Let’s turn villages, towns and the city yellow on the weekend of 22 and 23 of August.

Given the current circumstances surrounding Covid-19, the charity was keen to find a way to offer two days of opportunities to keep the much-loved experience in the calendar and a way to continue raising funds for cancer research and its services.

The flagship event, a 10k (6.5miles) challenge is suitable for all ages and mobility and is a guaranteed feel-good event. This year should be no different with Beatson Cancer Charity hoping that supporters will continue their celebration with Off the Beatson Track. Families can still take part but by staying local instead of the usual mass gathering city loop. Everyone can create their own route and participate in their own way. All that is asked is that you join in, wear yellow and enjoy yourself.

Adult entry fees (free for kids) will allow participants to gain exclusive access to pre-recorded entertainment, a specially prepared playlist and celebrity commentary via the new Off the Beatson Track podcast.

Sign up your friends, family (including pet dogs) and colleagues for the Off the Beatson Track 2020 by visiting www.beatsoncancercharity.org/otbt. All entrants will receive a t-shirt and specially designed medal.

Positive Stories for Negative Times

A new project is aiming to boost wellbeing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Wonder Fools has created Positive Stories for Negative Times in response to the lack of physical spaces for young people to participate in creative activities due to the pandemic and the detrimental impact that this is having on young people's mental health and wellbeing.

The project is completely free and is split into two phases: the first where organisations will be trained to move their youth work to focus on best practice for digital facilitation and safeguarding and the second will see a selection of rights-free plays created to rehearse and perform, and a training pack that provides a 10-part framework of how to lead young people through the process of rehearsing and recording a play remotely from their own homes.

Organisations can choose to participate in phases or join for a single phase only.

You can find out more on the Wonder Fools website and email gemma@wonderfools.org to express your interest.

Charity gift card launched

UK fin-tech company For Good Causes - which already enables consumers to donate their loyalty points, cash back and air miles to over 20,000 charities via brands like Vodafone, BP, Quidco and Rakuten - has announced it has expanded beyond the loyalty sector.

For Good Causes has partnered with a number of leading UK and global agencies to embed philanthropy across the marketing mix and continues to seek new partners to work with, so that it can offer a charity solution to hundreds of UK and international brands.

Steve Wilks, chief operating officer at For Good Causes, said: “Our decision to expand beyond the £7bn of unused loyalty points, cash back and air miles into the £3.5bn B2B gift card market by launching the UK’s first universal charity gift card is already proving to be a positive move, with our clients now engaging customers across the entire customer lifecycle and enabling them to donate to any of the 20,000 charities already live on our platform.”
