Staff at DeafBlind Scotland shocked by massive donation

Staff at DeafBlind Scotland say they are overwhelmed by a £500,000 donation by a Glasgow philanthropist.

The charity received a cheque this week from the estate of 77-year-old Gordon Neasham, who died last year.

A lawyer dealing with Neasham’s estate presented the cheque to stunned staff as the charity hosted an event to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

It is the largest donation the charity has ever received and has the potential to make a huge difference to its future. It will help build a national learning and development centre specifically for deafblind people, of which there are an estimated 5,000 in Scotland.

Drena O'Malley, initiatives officer for the charity, said: "We cannot fully express our gratitude for Mr Neasham's kindness."
