Charities and community groups that are having a life-changing impact on their communities are being urged to enter the Scottish Charity Awards 2015

Charities and community groups in Scotland that are making an exceptional impact on their communities can now enter the Scottish Charity Awards 2015.

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations-run awards programme opened to entries this week.

Groups are being urged to apply for an award in Charity of the Year, Celebrating Communities, Perfect Partnership, Cracking Campaign and Charity Champion.

Amanda Liddle, general manager at Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre, which won Charity of the Year this year, said winning had been a major boost for the organisation.

She said: “All of the young people who make up Toonspeak Young People’s Theatre were thrilled to be named as Charity of the Year, and the award also provided a big morale boost to our staff and volunteers.

“Our current funders were very impressed with our achievement, and winning the award has provided us with valuable evidence of sector-wide recognition which we have included in recent major funding applications.”

Up to five finalists will be announced in each category of the awards and all finalists will once again be entered into the People’s Choice award category, which was won last year by Fife Gingerbread (pictured right).

Lucy McTernan, deputy chief executive of SCVO, said: “The Scottish Charity Awards are the highlight of the year for many of us at SCVO and across the sector.

“Scotland’s third sector is one of the strongest and most vibrant in the world and we have so much to be proud of. Every year we are overwhelmed with fantastic entries from tiny projects operating in the remotest parts of Scotland to big national charities based in the central belt.

“If you know that your organisation, or an individual involved, is doing something innovative and life-changing for your community, then I urge you to enter. This is a great way to ensure that more people hear about and celebrate this great work.”

More information about the awards are available on the Scottish Charity Awards website. The closing date for entries is 13 March 2015 and the awards will be presented on 4 June in Edinburgh.
