They call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza

Protesters have blockaded BAE Systems in Govan this morning over its ties with supplying arms and weapons systems to Israel.

Workers for a Free Palestine have blocked the factory’s entrance waving banners and Palestinian flags.

They want the UK government to back a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

BAE Systems produces components for the F35 combat aircraft and the Mk 38 Mod 2 ship-based machine gun system, both of which are supplied to Israel.

A BAE Systems spokesperson said: "We're horrified by the situation in Israel and Gaza and the devastating impact it's having on civilians in the region and we hope it can be resolved as soon as possible.

"We respect everyone's right to protest peacefully.

“We operate under the tightest regulation and comply fully with all applicable defence export controls, which are subject to ongoing assessment."

Campaigners have previously targeted the Leonardo factory in Edinburgh for supplying Israel and Saudia Arabia with armaments used to wage war in Yemen and Palestine.
