Money raised will help ensure families in need can have a safe and warm Christmas

It’s that time of year again - let’s do it! That’s the message from Fife Gingerbread as it launches its annual appeal.                                            

The charity has started its 2023 Heat and Eat campaign, with money raised helping ensure families in need can have a safe and warm Christmas.

It also enables staff and volunteers to provide support all year round in crisis situations for children and their families.

Donations will go a long way to helping make Christmas that much more hopeful for families facing crisis and will also individuals that access Fife Gingerbread’s projects.

Every penny raised will support families through financial assistance, interventions, food packages, fuel support, groups to tackle isolation and holiday provision.

Last year’s appeal helped a family- three children in a private let covered with mould. The eldest child as asthma and heating bills were pushing the family into poverty. 

They were given support with heating costs and a dehumidifier was donated.

A lone parent with two teenage daughters, who was also taking care of another child in the family due to relationship breakdown, was also supported. Changes in her employment status meant that the mum would not have access to payments until January. Fife Gingerbread made sure that each child had a present to open and that the family could plan a Christmas meal together.

The mum said: “I will always remember that in the most difficult time of my life, my children still had Christmas. You never know how important a charity is until you need it - thank you to everyone who supported Heat and Eat.”
