Recruitment under way as chief executive announces retirement

New chief executive is sought for long standing Lanarkshire group

Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire (VANL) is looking for a new chief executive after it was announced its current head is to retire.

Maddy Halliday has led the third sector interface (TSI) for the past five and a half years, capping off a long and illustrious career in the sector.

Ryan Currie, interim chair of VANL, said the board are grateful for her service.

"Maddy has steered VANL through a period of change and uncertainty the likes of which the sector has never seen," he said.

“She leaves the organisation in a stronger position, both financially and in terms of governance than she found it.

“On behalf of all the staff and trustees of VANL, we want to publicly thank Maddy for her service and offer warm wishes to her and her family for her retirement."

Halliday completes her time in the sector with VANL having successfully served as founding CEO of The Life Changes Trust, and before that as founding director for Scotland of the Stroke Association.

Halliday said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my five and half years as CEO for VANL. It has been a privilege and pleasure to work with trustees to support sound governance of VANL and with staff to deliver capacity-building support to the community and voluntary sector and for volunteering.

“It has also been very fulfilling to be able to work with VANL staff and colleagues in our sector and public sector to jointly develop and deliver our exciting North Lanarkshire Community Solutions programme and support community planning. I wish VANL and colleagues in North Lanarkshire every future success.”

Margaret Gibb will take over as interim chief executive in May, and recruitment is now live for the permanent CEO role, with an upcoming deadline of 29 March.

Currie added: "This an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior leader in the sector to play an influential role at the beating heart of the community and voluntary sector in North Lanarkshire."

Candidates wishing to apply for the CEO role can find the job description on Goodmoves.
