It's Challenge Poverty Week - find out how you can get involved here

Anti-poverty campaigners and charities from across Scotland are coming together to call for action and compassion to break the grip of unjust poverty on people’s lives.

Events are taking place across the country to back this year’s Challenge Poverty Week.

The Scotland-wide campaign is designed to highlight that too many people are living with the constant pressure of living in poverty and that we must redesign our economy so that everyone has enough.

The first Challenge Poverty Week was launched by the Poverty Alliance in 2013.

The aim is to highlight the injustice of poverty in Scotland, and to show that collective action based on justice and compassion can create solutions.

The week is an opportunity for you to raise voices against poverty and unite with others in calling for a just and equal Scotland.

Each year, hundreds of organisations in Scotland do just that, including elected representative, charities and NGOs, local authorities, faith groups, businesses, school and colleges, trade unions, professional bodies and more.

Peter Kelly of The Poverty Alliance, which is co-ordinating the week, said: “Too many people in Scotland are living with the constant pressure of living in poverty.  As we plan our economic recovery, we must redesign our economy to reflect the values of justice and compassion we all share.

“By boosting people’s incomes and reducing the cost of living we can solve make sure we all have what we need.”
