I think this is a fantastic idea and it's great to see this even being considered. Losing a pet for many people is on a par with losing a family member. For others, a pet is their only family member. The loss of a pet has a devastating impact and the impact is enormous. More employers should definitely consider this - at least to offer it, then the employee has the option to take it up or not, if they feel it's not needed.

What a wonderful move! To many, a pet means so much, and their feeling of loss is just as deep and valid as any other. With bereavement being so often not taking seriously at all, it's so inspiring to see this finally taken into consideration.

Absolutely wonderful idea so often we drag ourselves in stoically having lost a member of our family... I have been fortunate to work for employers who at least allowed me to take a days leave to take care of our loved companions but an employer recognising this as a right is a huge step in employee welfare.

This is a very good idea, our dogs cats etc, are our family just the same as our human family

Really. A lot of people don't even get sick pay in the sector. I think sick pay should be employers priorities rather that animal bereavement pay.How do you possibly police it?
