TFN poll: public trust in charities

This poll is over 8 years old

It's been a rough 12 months in the UK charity sector - do you think our charities are more or less trustworthy than they were a year ago?

Compared to this time last year, do you trust charities less or more?

A major new, UK-wide survey has shown that the charity sector still has a way to go to shake off poor public perception it has received following a summer of scandals.

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) found that public trust has fallen following recent high profile fundraising controversies, such as that over the death of Olive Cooke.

ComRes polling for CAF shows 57% of the public now trust charities – a figure is significantly lower than the results from a similar poll carried out by the Charity Commission last year which found 71% of the public trusted charities.

What do you think? Thinking about this time last year, do you now trust charities more or less?

I have never trusted charities as a block any more than I would trust 'companies' or 'car drivers'. I think that the organisations classed as charities are far too diverse to apply such emotions to - in fact, as often, this is a preposterous question.

Charities, a necessary evil so to speak. I know who I don't trust, and it is confirmed by the day, that is the UK government. Charities need to be overseen by non governmental committees, but in general they do great work.
