Save The Children (STC) is calling on the UK government to take its share of the estimated 5,000 unaccompanied children who have found themselves in Italy as a result of the Mediterranean migrant crisis.

The youngsters have fled war, persecution and extreme poverty, enduring horrific journeys along the way, to reach Europe.

They now face an uncertain future as EU governments decide what to do with them and the 50,000 adults who have landed in Italy so far this year.

STC wants the UK government to do its part by committing to take at least 1,500 of the displaced children.

We’re asking: what should be done with the 5,000 unaccompanied children stranded in Italy?
