TFN editorial statement

Third Force News (TFN) is published by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO). It is a trade publication for Scotland’s third sector and reports on activities such as campaigns, management issues, leadership and governance. It also creates content that supports third sector organisations to develop.

SCVO does not publish TFN to be an uncritical cheerleader for the third sector in Scotland. SCVO believes Scotland has one of the most successful and professional third sectors in the world. It believes that Scotland’s annual £5bn third sector deserves a strong media outlet to champion its value to the rest of society.

TFN’s editorial line is independent from SCVO. The editorial team decides what content should appear in TFN and it is not preapproved by SCVO senior management. This means that on occasion TFN may include articles, either written in house or submitted by contributors, which are at odds with SCVO’s policy position. It may also publish articles which are critical of SCVO, its members, non-members and the wider third sector.

TFN directly contributes to SCVO’s vision for a fair and just society in which the role of the third sector is valued and understood. It does this by highlighting good practise and also doesn’t shy away from calling out bad practise when it occurs.

TFN’s editorial team is familiar with and supportive of the Independent Press Standards Organisation Editors’ Code of Practice.
