The Wimbledon champ sold his shirt to the highest bidder on the Charity Stars website

A shirt worn by Andy Murray as he won Wimbledon this year has raised £10,000 for charity.

The Scottish ace is donating the cash raised, after he put the top up for auction on the Charity Stars website, to Malaria No More UK.

Murray defeated Milos Raonic in the final on 10 July to win his second Wimbledon title and gifted the shirt which carried the logo of the charity shortly after.

Malaria No More UK will use the cash to continue its work to save millions of lives by conquering the preventable and treatable disease which kills 438,000 people every year.

Helen Mabberley, head of fundraising at the charity, said: “We’re hugely grateful to Andy Murray for donating his winning Wimbledon shirt; and to Charity Stars for helping run an online auction that capitalised on the excitement generated by Andy’s second Wimbledon triumph.

“The auction proceeds will help us in our mission to achieve another historic win – beating this global killer disease for good.”

The auction lasted 13 days and had 90 bids.
