Common Marmoset looked after by Scottish SPCA after being found in box

A monkey is being looked after by the Scottish SPCA (SSPCA) after being handed into a vet in Fife.

The marmoset was handed in by a member of the public after finding it inside a shoe-box in a lay-by.

It is currently being cared for at the Edinburgh Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Balerno.

Two marmoset monkeys were stolen in Nairn over the weekend and the charity is trying to confirm whether there is a link.

SSPCA Inspector Sarah Gregory said: "The person reported finding the animal in a lay-by on the road between Kincardine and High Valleyfield.

"Unfortunately we have been unable to speak with them ourselves and are appealing to this person to get in touch with us.

"Anyone with information on the reported theft of the monkeys in Nairn or the monkey handed in in the Fife area is being urged to contact or Police on 101 or Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999."
