JK Rowling has signed a unique Braille version of her debut novel - and a charity is set to be quids in

A blind charity is set to gain from the sale of a rare Harry Potter book.

Author JK Rowling has signed a rare Braille volume of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Now the book has gone on sale for £3,500 to raise money for sight loss charity, Royal Blind.

Royal Blind is based in Edinburgh, where JK Rowling famously wrote the Harry Potter books.

She previously supported the charity by unveiling a new library at the Royal Blind School in 2000 and by visiting the Scottish Braille Press, which is also run by the charity, in 1997.

It is Scotland’s largest visual impairment organisation, running several services including the Royal Blind School in Morningside.

Davina Shiell, Royal Blind marketing and fundraising manager, said sales of the book would be a fantastic boost for the charity: “We’re extremely grateful to JK Rowling for signing this very special Braille edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

“This is a fantastic collector’s item that is truly one-of-a-kind and all the money raised will contribute to the work Royal Blind does supporting visually impaired children and adults across Scotland and the rest of the UK.”

The book is being sold through rare book dealers’ Blackwell.

A spokesperson for Blackwell said: “We are delighted to be helping Royal Blind with the sale of what is a very special copy of this book. we are not aware of any other signed Braille editions of the Harry Potter books having been on the market in the UK before, and this represents a unique opportunity for collectors of the series.”
