The £120,000 Scottish Veterans Fund is open for bids

The Scottish Veterans Fund is open for bids from charities seeking up to £10,000 to support members of the ex-service community in Scotland.

Operated by Veterans Scotland, an umbrella organisation for ex-service charities in Scotland, the fund has allocated £720,000 to organisations since it was formed in 2008.

This year the fund, which is supported by the Scottish Government, is worth £120,000.

We have a remarkably active veterans community in Scotland, and I look forward to receiving some excellent bids

Successful previous projects have included those which offer support such as funding for conferences focussed on supporting veterans, supporting the provision of information, advice and guidance through drop in centres, providing lifestyle management courses and promoting the employment of veterans.

On announcing the fund Keith Brown MSP, cabinet secretary for infrastructure, investment and cities and himself a veteran, said: “Veterans of our armed forces are a huge asset to Scotland and the Scottish Government is firmly committed to helping them make a smooth transition to civilian life, receiving the best possible levels of support.

“The Scottish Veterans Fund was set up by this Scottish Government to support worthy projects that make a difference to veterans’ lives.

“We have a remarkably active veterans community in Scotland, and I look forward to receiving some excellent bids.”

Applications are invited for grants from the 2016-17 fund which is open to all organisations in Scotland for suitable projects which will be of benefit to the Armed Forces Veterans Community in Scotland.

Application forms and guidance notes are available on the Veterans Scotland website veteransscotland.co.uk or by contacting Veterans Scotland at [email protected].
