Cash pours in as celebs back The Big Give

Donations made until 4 December will be doubled – and 589 charities participating support a huge range of causes

A galaxy of celebrities have been showing their good side and backing the Big Give’s annual match funding campaign, The Christmas Challenge.

The campaign encourages people to give to charity by offering to double any donation made.

Celebs backing the campaign include Stephen Fry, Professor Green, Jon Snow, Kirstie Allsopp and Ben Elton.

Donations made until 4 December will be doubled – and 589 charities participating support a huge range of causes.

The campaign, which launched on international day of giving, #GivingTuesday, offers to match any donation made to participating charities has already raised over £4 million.

Celebrities like David Tennant (see below) and Davina McCall have released videos in support of charities which are participating in the campaign.

Thanks to many celebrities sharing the campaign through social media, the #ChristmasChallenge18 trended on Twitter most of Tuesday afternoon.

Comedian, Miranda Hart, tweeted her support for young person’s charity, Resurgo Trust, which improves the lives of disadvantaged young people.

Vlogger Tanya Burr encouraged her followers to support Boundless Theatre, a charity working encouraging access to the arts.

Whilst Arlene Phillips asked the public to support the charity, Candoco Dance Company; the group of disabled and non-disabled dancers which blew Strictly Come Dancing viewers away with their moving performance on Sunday evening.

The Big Give also roped in Channel 4 Newsreader, Jon Snow, and Irish rockband, Kodaline, to help promote the Christmas Challenge through providing the voice and music for it’s campaign video which has been shared widely on social media.

The scheme is the brainchild of Sir Alec Reed, founder of the Reed recruitment business.

To date, the Big Give has been responsible for raising £100m for good causes through its website.
