The group of celebrities will walk 117 miles along the Fife coast to raise money for Theirworld charity

Ramblers along Fife’s popular coastal path could be in for a rare sighting later this month when a gaggle of celebrity fundraisers are expected to arrive.

Charity founder Sarah Brown has recruited celebrities including Great British Bake Off presenter Sandi Toksvig, actress Arabella Weir and author Kathy Lette to trek 117 miles along the Fife coast to raise money along for girls’ education.

The wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown set up Theirworld in 2002 to raise money to support scientific and community research into solving pregnancy and childbirth issues.

However, the charity has now developed into an international organisation that also supports children’s education and skills development for young adults around the world.

The group, who will also be joined by Toksvig’s wife Debbie, are training to complete the trek over five days. They will set up off from Kincardine on 30 July and finish in Newburgh.

Sarah Brown said: “Theirworld works in the UK and around the world with projects ranging from code clubs for girls in Africa, teacher training programmes in Turkey for Syrian refugee children, and school nutrition programmes and tech clubs in Lebanon.”

The group are keen to engage with the public as they go through Fife’s towns and villages and they have organised special events in North Queensferry, Aberdour and Kirkcaldy.
