Celebs all set for Geeky Quiz

You can join a host of sci-fi actors for a charity quiz this evening (Monday 4 May)

Big names from the extended ‘geeky’ multiverse will unite for a special, one-off online pub quiz this evening (Monday 4 May).

Launched by long-time Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) ambassador, Ewan McGregor, the Big Geeky Quiz – an extension of the charity’s Geeky T-Shirt Day – will feature questions and contributions from the Star Wars actor alongside countryman Dougray Scott, Hollywood legend Eugene Levy, science fiction stalwart Jonathan Frakes, and many more.

It’s a family affair, too. Amongst Starfleet Commanders, Disney Princesses, Westeros Lords, White Walkers, Power Rangers and a few big surprises from the world of sci-fi and fantasy, the quiz will also feature McGregor’s uncle, actor Denis Law, who played fan favourite Wedge Antilles in the original trilogy and latterly reprised the role for a cameo in 2019’s Skywalker saga finale.

At the heart of the chaos will be host CBeebies star James Mackenzie, who has worked extensively on fundraisers with CHAS over the last few years – from Teddy Bears Picnics to a Saharan Trek.

In order to help support the ongoing physical and new virtual hospice services provided to CHAS families, who are dealing with the most difficult of circumstances at the most impossible of times, participants are encouraged to simply wear their Geekiest T-Shirt, or CHAS t-shirt if they have one, share their efforts using #MayThe4thBeWithCHAS and donate just £3 by texting ‘Geeky 3’ to 70450.

A JustGiving page specific to the fundraiser and details on how to participate can be found online.

Laura Campbell, community fundraising development manager at CHAS, said: “We continue to be blown away by how far this appeal can travel and the way that so many different communities have rallied round to support it. I suppose the message is universal – friends, family and community are crucial to us all right now and we need CHAS children and families to know that this is a day when we all walk with them.

“If people feel they’re in a place to donate, to help sustain the clinical and social services CHAS hospice and at home teams continue to provide in the face of this current reality, we would be immensely grateful for the support.

“We want to see as many fans as possible show up for our Big Geeky Quiz on Facebook Live tonight. We still have a few big surprises up our sleeve!”
