Ecclesiastical awarded a total of £120,000 through its Christmas campaign.

Nine Scottish charities have received a £1,000 funding boost thanks to nominations from the public.

The charities were nominated to win a share of a UK-wide pot of £120,000 as part of specialist insurer Ecclesiastical's annual 12 days of giving Christmas campaign.

More than 120,000 people around the UK nominated a cause close to their heart, with over 5,000 charitable causes receiving votes.

Winning charities were picked at random from those nominated, with 120 organisations around the UK benefiting from the campaign.

The Scottish charities who have received awards are the Glasgow City Mission, Lothian Cat Rescue, Edinburgh School Uniform Bank, Maggie’s Cancer Centre, Hope for Glasgow, the Three Rs Horse Rescue Centre, The Kirkmichael Trust, OneKind, and Oliver’s Army Assistance and Therapy Dogs.

Mark Hews, Ecclesiastical group chief executive, thanked all those who nominated charities.

“Here at Ecclesiastical, our core purpose is to contribute to the greater good of society, so charitable giving is at the heart of our business,” he said.

“We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this festive financial boost will change lives for the better.”

Ecclesiastical was founded in 1887 to provide insurance for the Anglican Church. It now offers insurance across the faith, heritage, fine art, charities, education and private sectors.

It was named as one of the UK’s top five corporate donors to charity in the 2017-18 UK Guide to Company Giving.
