Groups from across the UK have been shortlisted for this year’s ScottishPower Foundation Awards

Charities are set to fight it out for a funding boost.

Eighteen UK charities have been shortlisted for this year’s ScottishPower Foundation Awards – giving them an opportunity to take home a share of the £30,000 award fund up for grabs at the ceremony, which takes place on 7 November in Glasgow.

The shortlist contains a range of non-profit organisations from the environment, science, arts and culture, citizenship and relief of poverty and disadvantage. It includes Scotland’s most visited museum collection, National Museums Scotland.

This year the foundation donated more than £1.8 million to 26 organisations.

The Outward Bound Trust, 2050 Climate Group, The Aloud Charity, Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland, Theatr Clwyd, O Ddrws I Ddrws, National Theatre of Scotland, Music in Hospitals & Care, Maggie’s, Perth Autism Support, Dumfries House, Alzheimer Scotland, RSPB Scotland, Glasgow Caledonian University, Children’s University Scotland, Young Enterprise, The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice and National Museums Scotland are all in the running after submitting applications to the Foundation earlier this year.

Four award category winners will be announced on the night of the event, which celebrates the work of the charities which the ScottishPower Foundation has donated grants to during 2017. The winner of each category will receive a further £5,000 while each runner-up will receive £2,500.

Now in its fourth year, the foundation’s awards ceremony will be held at ScottishPower’s new headquarters in St Vincent Street in Glasgow. The foundation has been funded by ScottishPower since it was established in 2013.
