Rangers legend targeted by "bigoted morons"

Anti-sectarianism charity Nil By Mouth has slammed vile online trolls for targeting former Rangers star Nacho Novo as he recovers from a heart attack.

One tweet said: “Hope you die within a week nacho novo!”

Another Twitter user posted: “Nacho novo, won’t see 10 in a row.”

The former striker is in a stable condition after suffering a heart attack on Saturday evening.

The 38-year-old was featuring for Rangers in the AOK Traditionsmasters 2018 in Berlin when he was taken ill.

Hundreds of hate-filled tweets have been targeted at the Spaniard despite all sides of footballing spectrum offering support.

Many echo a song sung sung at the star in the past by rival fans with the lyrics: “I hope you die in your sleep Nacho Novo, I hope you die in your sleep, I pray…”

Dave Scott of Nil By Mouth called the tweets “bigoted, poisonous behaviour.”

“If your reaction to someone having a heart attack is to gloat because they once played for a rival football club in an effort to get other morons to click like you’re a pretty poor excuse for a human being,” he said.

Novo’s girlfriend has thanked fans and loved ones for their support.

Stephanie Heaney said he has been “getting lots of rest” and is being “well looked after” by “amazing” doctors.
