Lifetime ambition is fulfilled by 85 year old stroke survivor thanks to charity

An 84-year-old fulfilled his lifetime ambition and visited Bass Rock thanks to the efforts of the charity’s dedicated staff.

Staff at North Berwick-based Leuchie House, which provides respite breaks for those needing care, booked a trip for Ian to travel around the rock last Wednesday, but just as they were about to set off for North Berwick harbour, it was cancelled due to bad weather.

With Ian only having a few days left of his stay at Leuchie, it looked as if it might not happen.

But at the last minute the weather relented and Ian finally got on the rock.

Leuchie House’s CEO Mairi O’Keefe said: “When we heard about Ian’s long-held wish to take this boat trip we knew we had to do everything possible to get him there! It’s one of our goals at Leuchie House to help our guests achieve things they might not ordinarily be able to do.

“So to be able to give Ian the support he needed to finally manage to take the trip after all these years years, and to see how much he enjoyed it, was real highlight for all the Leuchie team.”
