Charity shop volunteers have tracked down a man who donated his wife's vintage wedding dress, leaving a touching note attached

Charity shop volunteers have tracked down a man who donated his wife's vintage wedding dress, leaving a touching note attached.

Workers at a hospice shop said they received the dress along with other donations.

When they opened the bag to sort the clothes, they discovered a stunning lace wedding dress inside - but were mostly enamoured with the note he left with it, which wished for love and happiness for the woman who bought it.

The message read: "I wish any lady who takes this dress to have a life with her loved one. 56 years like I did. Happy years. I was a lucky man to marry a lady like mine."

Staff at the charity shop which raises cash for St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds launched a bid to find the man so they could thank him and eventually tracked him down.

A spokeswoman for the hospice said: “We have found the kind gentleman who donated the beautiful vintage wedding dress to St Gemma’s Hospice this week.

“He is over the moon that we are giving somebody the opportunity to buy the gorgeous gown on ebay.

“He is a big fan of St Gemma’s Hospice and is overwhelmed with the International attention that his late wife’s dress is generating. He is so happy and proud that the hospice will benefit from funds raised by the auction of the dress.

“We have thanked him so much for his kindness and he would like to thank everyone for their support.”

The dress is currently listed for sale on eBay on the official St Gemma's Hospice fundraising page.
