Charity’s home struck by vandals

Smalls for All had to make a move to its new premises faster than planned after the incident this week

Sick vandals have trashed a charity’s premises just days before the organisation was due to move.

Smalls for All provides underwear for those facing poverty at home and abroad.

However the charity was left shocked when its depot in Livingston was ransacked overnight on Monday into Tuesday (10 – 11 June).

The premises was flooded, with significant damage caused to both the building and items left inside.

A post on the charity’s Facebook page said: “What should have been a happy day as we started to prepare for our move to new premises took a turn for the worse when we arrived this morning to find our warehouse had been broken into.

“The place was flooded and ransacked. Sadly lots and lots of damage. We’re moving things out as fast as we can. If anyone in or near Livingston can spare someone with a van / lorry we would be most grateful for the help.”

A later post from the group said they had been taken aback by the support shown by local businesses and individuals helping them transport stock and move to new premises.

Police are investigating and said the damage may be linked to a traveller encampment which was set up at the warehouse at Kirkton Campus.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 8.30am on Tuesday 11 June, police in West Lothian received a report of a traveller encampment being set up on the grounds of a business premises at the Kirkton Campus in Livingston.

"Officers are liaising with colleagues at West Lothian Council in relation to this matter.

"Police are also conducting inquiries into reports of damage caused to the premises as a result of the encampment."
