Annual report shows ambitious income targets are being reached

Barnardo’s income has soared to the £300m mark for the first time.

The children’s charity posted its annual report showing an income of £301.5m - a £2.8m increase on the previous year.

Charitable activities and voluntary income had a slight dipped slightly but income from trading rose by £6m to £70m.

It comes as the charity saw a 10% increase in service users turning to the organisation for support.

Last year Barnardo’s launched a 10 year strategy aiming increase income to £400m and to double cash gained through fundraising in a bid to become less reliant on statutory funds.

Barnardo’s corporate strategy says it aims to open 300 new shops by 2025, in order to reach a total of 1,000.

A spokesman said the pause is “right and proper” and the charity is “looking to consolidate our business over the next year and then push on with the strategy”.

The report shows that Javed Khan, its chief executive, was the highest paid employee, earning between £180,000 and £190,000 in 2016. T

The organisation reduced the number of employees earning over £100,000 from seven to four, with 38 people earning over £60,000.
