Anti-war protestors will gather in Glasgow and Edinburgh today (Monday, 30 November) to demand: don’t bomb Syria.

Emergency protests will take place at Buchanan Street steps in Glasgow and the east end of Prince's Street at 5pm.

Organised by the Stop The War Coalition, the aim is to let politicians know the public opposes UK government plans to bomb areas held by Islamic State in Syria.

Protestors say that any action will not degrade the terrorists but will punish ordinary Syrians, who are already suffering from the brutal civil war.

Other demonstrations have been held across the country.

The Glasgow protest comes as Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn meets his shadow cabinet to decide whether to instruct his MPs to oppose an attack – or to allow a free vote.

Prime Minister David Cameron is preparing to put the issue to the vote in Westminster – but will only do so if he believes he is assured of a majority in favour.

The stance of Labour MPs will be crucial – and it is thought Cameron may back down if Labour MPs are whipped into opposing strikes.

Opinion polls have consistently shown that the public opposes an attack.
