​New publication aimed at children and young people

Sight loss charity RNIB Scotland has produced a short booklet outlining its services for children and young people who are blind or partially sighted.

The organisation works from early years right through school to the transition to further or higher education and employment, engaging with education workers as well as families.

Its services include training for teachers, family social activities, a loan scheme for schools to test out adaptive technology and the multi-award-winning Haggeye youth forum for 12 to 25 year-olds.

Education and family services manager Dominic Everett said: "We place an emphasis on an aspirational 'can do' attitude that promotes positive self-esteem and allows children and young people to thrive, lead enriched lives and be as independent as possible."

There are around 2,500 children and young people in Scotland with sight loss.
