New hostels offer better facilities and increased capacity

Four summer youth hostels have opened to meet increasing demand from budget conscious travelers.

Hostelling Scotland will open new hostels or increase capacity at existing ones in Perth, Glasgow and Edinburgh, offering more accommodation at the height of Scotland’s busy tourist season.

The summer hostels are part of a continuing strategy to expand the range of accommodation it can offer guests in popular Scottish destinations.

The new hostels are: Haddington Place Youth Hostel (new in 2017); Edinburgh Metro Youth Hostel, at Edinburgh University's halls of residence on the Cowgate; Perth Youth Hostel in the Perth College halls of residence; and Glasgow Metro at Margaret Macdonald House, The Glasgow School of Art’s halls of residence.

Opening dates start from late June and run through to late August/early September, with individual youth hostel dates available at Hostelling Scotland.

Hostelling Scotland chief executive Margo Paterson, said: “We are delighted to be in the position to offer our guests a wide range of high quality, affordable accommodation in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth in the busy summer months.”

The four hostels will add an additional 517 bed spaces across the three cities. Accommodation types vary from self-contained flats to en-suite rooms perfect for individual travelers, couples, families and groups.
