Cash remains for third sector groups to develop sporting initiatives in their communities

Over £200,000 remains available for third sector organisations looking to develop sporting facilities for use by their local communities.

A final round of funding from the £1 million Legacy 2014: Sustainable Sport for Communities Fund became available after the first 21 beneficiaries were announced last month.

The fund was created with investment from the Scottish Government and The Robertson Trust and is delivered by these organisations in partnership with Social Investment Scotland, sportscotland and Senscot.

Kenneth Ferguson, director of The Robertson Trust, said “We have an incredibly committed community sport sector in Scotland which is capable of delivering impressive results often with limited resources. Through the fund, we hope to make the process of achieving sustainability that little bit easier for those organisations involved.”

Any not for profit organisations who are thinking of developing their role within communities through sport or physical activity is being encouraged to apply.

Jamie Hepburn, minister for sport, health improvement and mental health, said: “This additional funding represents an enormous opportunity for small sport and community groups throughout Scotland. These grants will provide vital help to small initiatives that are trying to get off the ground.”
