Cash enables care group top continue vital service

Home-Start Aberdeen has secured £25,000-worth of funding to support its work with local families.

The family support charity received the funding from the RS Macdonald Charitable Trust. It will allow trained volunteers to make weekly home visits to families who may be vulnerable, or suffering from isolation.

The charity provides regular emotional and practical support in the home setting, helping families avoid further crises or breakdown.

Georgette Cobban, scheme manager, said: "We are grateful to the trust for its funding commitment at a time when demand for our home visiting service continues to rise.

"This award will allow us to support up to 16 families on a weekly basis for up to a year, providing assistance that is customised to each families' needs. The families we support are affected by a wide range of issues such as debt, poverty, mental health, disability, relationship breakdown and bereavement.

“Timely intervention and regular support can help these families to turn their lives around."

Formed by Roderick Stewart Macdonald in 1978 to support Scottish charities, the RS Macdonald Charitable Trust’s mission is to support charities involving families, carers and communities as well as encourage participation for people who are often excluded from society.
