The Scottish Government has announced a new round of funding for projects in the African nation

Scottish organisations are being invited to team up with partners in Malawi to help improve the lives of the country’s most vulnerable people.

A new four and a half-year Scottish Government funding pot of up to £2.5 million has been announced.

Since 2005, hundreds of projects have been supported in Malawi contributing to its development goals and the fund aims to build on this work.

International development minister Alasdair Allan said: “Scotland continues to have a special link with the people of Malawi. For over 150 years Scots have worked with the people of the country, assisting them to develop their education and health systems.

“On this day 12 years ago, we signed the cooperation agreement with the government of Malawi which established the Malawi development fund and our international development programme.

“In this time we have invested over £54 million in the Malawi development programme and this announcement reflects the special and enduring relationship our two nations have enjoyed.”

Details on how to access the funding are available online.
