Breaking Bad's Laura Fraser is promising to Go Off the Beatson Track for a Glasgow cancer charity

Scottish actress Laura Fraser is to take part in a sponsored walk for a cancer charity that provides patient and family support to people battling the disease in Glasgow.

Famous for roles including Lydia in the award wining American crime drama Breaking Bad, Glaswegian actress Fraser – who is an Ambassador for the Beatson Cancer Charity – joined supporters and former patients to launch the brand new fundraiser.

Beatson Cancer Charity is calling on supporters to go Off The Beatson Track and don their best and brightest yellow fancy dress to take part in the event on 28 August.

Cancer affects the lives of so many people and Beatson Cancer Charity does such a wonderful job at helping make those difficult times families face that little bit easier - Laura Fraser

Fraser said: “It’s an honour to be part of this special event. Cancer affects the lives of so many people and Beatson Cancer Charity does such a wonderful job at helping make those difficult times families face that little bit easier. That’s why I will be going Off The Beatson Track to celebrate the charity’s amazing success. Anyone can sign up – family, friends, even dogs.”

The six and a half mile walk on fully accessible paths will start and finish at Riverside Museum and take in some of the iconic sights of Glasgow’s West End.

There will be entertainment to keep walkers and crowds entertained throughout the day, including a live set from Capital FM Scotland’s drive time presenter Garry Spence.

William Oviatt, fundraiser at Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “Over 3,000 people have participated in our Off The Beatson Track event. Last year our fantastic participants raised £140,000 to help support Beatson patients and their families – we’re hoping that this year will be even bigger and better.

"There will be a real party atmosphere on the day and we hope to see a sea of yellow making its way through Glasgow’s west end again.”

The charity delivers a comprehensive range of patient and family support services including patient wellbeing and complementary therapy services delivered through its centres in the West of Scotland.
