Gordon's Fightback Dinner will mark the life and legacy of Gordon Aikman and raise funds for MND Scotland

A dinner in memory of a passionate MND campaigner is set to be held this summer.

Gordon’s Fightback Dinner will pay tribute to Gordon Aikman on Global MND Awareness Day on 21 June.

The event – at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh - will see a host of celebrities come together in the fight against Motor Neurone Disease, raising money for charity MND Scotland.

Aikman, who lost his fight with the condition last year, inspired the nation with his battle against MND as he campaigned to raise money to fund research to find a cure for the disease

And now his spirit will be celebrated at the gala evening with a sparkling drinks reception, followed by a decadent three course meal and a live performance from Deacon Blue's Ricky Ross.

Ross, who wrote a song in memory of Aikman, said: "I knew Gordon personally and his strength and passion to change the future for others affected by MND was immense. This night is going to be an epic tribute to him and everything raised will go to MND Scotland, a fantastic charity supporting people with the illness and helping to find a cure."

Some great prizes will be auctioned off at the event, with Scotland rugby legends Scott Hastings and Doddie Weir – who recently announced he was fighting MND – acting as the auctioneers.

“Gordon did so much to raise awareness of this terrible disease and had a really positive impact on the lives of fellow sufferers,” said Weir. “I have now taken up the baton and hope to continue the fightback.”

The night will also see the "Fightback Spirit" award presented to recognise someone's inspirational contribution to the fightback against MND. Tickets are on sale now.
