Edinburgh charity recognised by Comic Relief for delivery of vital services to young people

Edinburgh charity Health Opportunities Team (Hot) has become one of more than 2,100 organisations across the UK to receive a brand new red plaque in recognition of its vital work, supported by Comic Relief funding.

The independent charity is committed to improving the social, emotional and sexual wellbeing of young people in the Portobello/Craigmillar and Liberton/Gilmerton areas of Edinburgh and has been recently been awarded £68,000 over three years.

The Comic Relief cash will help fund its new Substance Misuse Project which aims to provide therapeutic group and one-to-one support for vulnerable young people, aged 12-25, who are struggling with their own substance misuse, or are affected by their parent’s substance misuse.

In recognition of the partnership Hot has been given the round, red plaque, to replicate Comic Relief’s iconic red nose.

Avesha DeWolfe, the Substance Misuse project worker, said: “It is so important for young people to have this locally accessible substance misuse service and, thanks to Comic Relief’s support in partnership with Lloyd’s PDI; we are thrilled to be able to offer it.”

Featuring a quote by Billy Connolly the plaque is now on display at the front door of Hot’s office at 1a Queen’s Walk.
