European delegation takes stock of Glasgow's social housing

A European delegation is looking to Glasgow to see how social housing can regenerate their own communities.

Business chiefs from across the continent visited the city to learn from work the Wheatley Group is doing in regeneration.

The social landlord is Scotland's biggest and includes Glasgow Housing Association.

The 19 delegates from countries including Sweden, Italy and Germany spent two days touring North Toryglen and Sighthill to see new-build homes taking shape and hearing about how the social landlord supports tenants.

They also visited a Click & Connect centre - one of 23 new or refurbished centres around Glasgow where customers can get online.

The centres, which are a partnership between Wheatley and Glasgow Kelvin College, provide free computer facilities and digital classes in some of Scotland’s poorest communities.

Wheatley's Group director of property Alex McGuire said: "We are delighted to be working with organisations across Europe to share our experiences of regenerating communities.

"By working together and meeting colleagues from other European countries, we can learn from each other.”
