GAMH staff take to the streets as they battle to save their charity, which helps some of Glasgow's most vulnerable

More than 500 people turned up at a demo on Wednesday to show their support for lifeline charity Glasgow Association of Mental Health (GAMH).

They pressed home the point to Glasgow City councillors that swinging budget cuts will cost lives.

A petition signed by thousands of people was also handed in.

The authority says it wants to slash the charity's funding by 40% - a move which could make it unviable.

GAMH's clients - some of the most vulnerable in the city - would be left with nowhere to turn to.

Other services would have to try to pick up the pieces - a false economy, say charity staff who, along with their union Unison, are now considering their next move in the battle to beat closure.

A selection of pictures from the demonstration can be found below.

GAMH helps and supports many people who would not get the support they need if it were to close, there is little enough support for mental health charities we should be funding more services not taking them away. the power that be should be thinking ahead before they have to start building more psychiatric hospitals. We are all trying to break down stigma and yet what the councils are saying to people you are not really worth what it costs to support you. False economy ...when will they ever learn.
