Hi Gurkha Welfare Trust, As a watched Joana Lumley present a delightful programme on ITV 3. about a the continued search for Noah’s Ark I kept thinking of her involvement with the Ghurkha's, and despite her loyalty how she occasionally suffers for her efforts. So this email is directed to your Trust, but of course should Joana Lumley wish to get involved I for one would welcome it. Now before I explain what I have in mind let me give you a brief outline of myself. My name is Ken Stock I am eighty four next November 10th, I was born in Leytonstone E 11 eight years before World War two, but at the age of four my dad bought a new property in Woodford Essex where I met my sweet Irene we were both sixteen. We were married, and had two beautiful little girls by the time I finished two years National Service in the Royal Air Force. When we were twenty seven I was given the opportunity of moving to Bournemouth in a large five bedroomed house the idea being my dad. and I would redecorate the place throughout, then I’d get a job, and we would take in holiday makers for bed, and breakfast. I still remember my dad saying “Couple of years son, and you’ll have your deposit” Seven years later we moved in to our own three bedroomed semidetached property. Now move forwards to retirement, and the bungalow that Irene loved. I’d always been interested in growing, and showing various plants, but by now the greatest was the dahlia in all it’s various forms, and a lucky experiment produced my very first seedlings. Once more move forward to 2012 when six new seedlings I let the children's charity Starlight auction the naming rights of made an incredible £20,000. It sounds unimaginable, but it happened because of the right venue, and the people attending it. Since the many things have happen, the main one that affected me the most was when my dear darling Irene had to leave the material world. I will never except her essence doesn’t remain I miss her more than anything else in my life. I compensate by trying to do as much as I can for charities, but even this is hampered ironically by the job I did all my life. You see the lead paint I burnt off hundreds, and hundreds of properties damaged nerve ends which in turn affected my balance. Fortunately by reducing the number of dahlias we grow, the help of our two wonderful daughters, and a nursery in Cornwall my charity efforts continue. Now would you have an event where you could hold an auction? Realise the event, and people attending it are vital to the amount you make. Should the answer be yes I will make sure you get three of this years seedlings to auction the naming rights, and explain how it all works. Before I close I’d like to personally thank the bravery of the Ghurkha's for all they did for us. Oh, and of course I think Joana Lumley is the best thing since anything you’d like to name, she is one funny lady. Nepal Children's Trust's is on Face Book I was hoping there is some way to contact Joanna Lumly to see if she could help raise awareness for this charity working in Nepal in Pokhara if she could that would be fantastic thank you
