The controversial TV personality said that participants would be better taking up acting than spending a night on the street

TV personality Katie Hopkins has sparked controversy after criticising an event which has raised millions of pounds to prevent homelessness in Scotland.

The former Apprentice contestant urged people not to take part in Sleep in the Park – a mass sleepout held in Edinburgh on Saturday night.

Hopkins said that participants would be better to take up acting than spend one night on the street.

More than £3.6 million has been raised already by Sleep in the Park.

Organiser Josh Littlejohn said he recognised that homelessness could not be ended in one night, but the money raised would result in a giant step being taken in the fight to help people off the streets.

And thus Katie Hopkins mission accomplished. Cause controversy in one tweet. Have it picked up in other parts of social media, light blue touch paper and retire while everyone wades in to talk about it/her . And yes I recognise the irony of me commenting first. But why publicise her view in the first place

Why are you providing oxygen for the attention seeker? It almost smacks of Daily Mail-style clickbait.

Nothing annoys this woman more than being ignored. You never learn.
