A Glasgow woman has won a charity competition to have dinner in Edinburgh with Hollywood heart throb George Clooney.

Heather McGowan, 32, from Cardonald, will join the star at an event being held at a secret location in the Scottish capital this Thursday.

She beat thousands in a competition run by the charity Social Bite in conjunction with Amal Clooney’s humanitarian charity Not On Our Watch.

It ran the competition on the deals website Itison.

Social Bite runs cafes in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen and gives 100% of profits to charities.

Josh Littlejohn, co-founder of the social venture, brazenly asked Clooney earlier this year about visiting the not-for-profit chain.

I'm absolutely delighted, and still a bit in shock - Heather McGowan

Remarkably the ER actor agreed and is expected to meet employees at Social Bite’s Edinburgh premises on Thursday (12 November).

While in Edinburgh, he’ll also address the Scottish Business Awards.

McGowan, who runs a wedding events company in Glasgow, said: “I'm a big George Clooney fan and love the Oceans films so I'm absolutely delighted, and still a bit in shock, to have won the competition.

"I'm looking forward to hearing about his involvement in Social Bite and the work of his charity, Not On Our Watch.

“And being in the wedding business, I'm also really interested to find out how involved he was in planning his wedding to Amal."

Social Bite launched what is thought to be the first ''selfless'' loyalty card last month.

It allows customers to save up loyalty points to buy a meal and a hot drink for homeless people after 10 visits to the cafe.

Littlejohn said: “It's incredibly exciting to be bringing one of the world's biggest stars to Edinburgh and the team at Social Bite is buzzing ahead of his visit.

"For many of our team who until recently lived on the streets, this is a really amazing thing to look forward to.”
