Match sponsorship will raise awareness of mental health issues

A Scots football team and a mental health charity have teamed up.

Scottish Association or Mental Health (SAMH) will sponsor the Pars’ match against Queen of the South on Sunday.

The partnership between the team and the charity aims to help change the culture around mental health and give people the opportunity to open up.

Players will wear SAMH’s branded T-shirts at their match-day warm up to highlight that mental health issues can affect anyone.

We hope that by raising the profile of mental health at Dunfermline Athletic FC we can encourage fans to start talking about it

Jo Anderson, SAMH’s director of external affairs, said: “Football reaches thousands of people every week. With one in four of us experiencing a mental health problem each year we are always looking for ways to spread messages about looking after our mental health and wellbeing.

“Our thanks to Dunfermline Athletic for helping to raise awareness of and funds for mental health this weekend, we are delighted to be part of Saturday’s match day activities.

“No-one should be ashamed to talk about their mental health and we hope that by raising the profile of mental health at Dunfermline Athletic FC we can encourage fans to start talking about it.”

Dunfermline Athletic vice-chairman, Billy Braisby said: “Dunfermline Athletic would like to thank SAMH for their match sponsor at East End Park. It’s a charity close to the clubs heart, so we are delighted to help raise awareness at this Saturday’s match against Queen of the South.”
