Reality TV show will see Mone's daughter visit Glasgow's east end

Michelle Mone has been slammed for sending her daughter on a “poverty safari” to the east end of Glasgow.

Bethany Tobin will spend a week in Bridgeton for Channel 4’s Born Famous, a reality TV show that puts the offspring of celebrities into deprived communities.

Allison Thewliss, SNP MP for Glasgow Central, blasted Bethany's stint on the show, calling it an "utterly despicable exploitation" of those in the area.

She said: "Utterly despicable exploitation of a kind, close-knit community. No area deserves "poverty safari" treatment, but particularly cruel of Michelle Mone to use East End roots to pick on Bridgeton, which has seen change led by local people."

The move also instigated the ire of dozens on social media.

But Mone hit back at the critics on Twitter, saying: "It’s so disappointing that people have made a snap judgement on what the series is about and I hope they will reserve further judgement for when they are able to view it.

"After people watch it a lot of people will owe us a big apology.”

After becoming a Baroness in 2015, Mone caused outrage in a vote to cut tax credits.

Shortly after she tweeted: “If you really want something, really work hard, don't look for excuses, be proactive, have a can do attitude and never ever give up, you will succeed.”

Other offspring who will take part in the Channel 4 series are Jack Ramsay, son of chef Gordon, Ria Ince, daughter of former England football captain Paul Ince, and singer Mel B’s daughter Phoenix Chi, 19.

Thanks for the words of wisdom Michelle. Tell that to those 'working reall hard' on minimum wage who simply want to be able to pay their basic living expenses.
