Prince Edward opened a new camping facility to help get youngsters out in the wild

A camping facility for young Scouts was opened with the seal of Royal approval this week.

The Earl of Wessex Prince Edward visited Scout Adventures Fordell Firs in Dunfermline to open the brand new Tented Village.

The village is a semi-permanent facility that will make camping more accessible for those who do not have their own camping gear.

While he was there, the Duke got to see the difference that Scouts Scotland and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) makes to young people and communities across the country.

Katie Docherty, chief executive of Scouts Scotland, said: “We were incredibly proud to have our new Tented Village opened by HRH The Earl of Wessex. We hope it will make it easier for those without kit to just arrive at Fordell Firs and enjoy the outdoors.

“It was also great to introduce His Royal Highness to meet our Explorer Scouts who are doing their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and for him to hear first-hand the skills for life that they gain.”
