People involved in running third sector organisations are being asked to give their thoughts on a new Scottish governance code

Scotland’s Third Sector Governance Forum is seeking views on its new governance code.

The code has been developed follow research from Scotland’s charity regulator that identified good governance as one of the top things that promotes trust in charities.

While research also suggests public trust in Scottish charities remains high, recent scandals such as those that hit Oxfam and Save the Children have the potential to affect overall faith in the sector.

The Scottish third sector governance forum is made up for bodies including the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), the Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations, the Institute of Fundraising and the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator.

It has been working to develop the new code since the end of last year with seed funding from the Scottish Government.

Ann Rowe, of SCVO, said: “We’ve said all along that we want to create a code that’s for the sector by the sector, and we need your help to make sure we’ve got it right.

“From chief execs to trustees, directors of social enterprises, committee members of voluntary organisations, third sector interfaces, lawyers or the public – we’d really appreciate it if you could take part in our consultation.”

The forum plans to launch the code during Trustees Week in November.
