Charities can apply for up to £75,000 under a new Home Office initiative

Charities working to tackle extremism can apply for extra funding through a newly-announced Home Office programme.

The Building a Stronger Britain Together initiative is inviting organisations to submit applications for grant funding of up to £50,000 or in-kind support up to £75,000.

Grant funding will be awarded to specific projects with “demonstrable outcomes”, such as offering opportunities to vulnerable children who might be at risk of being radicalised.

In-kind support can be used to pay for infrastructure improvements such as social media training, website building or media training.

Across the country organisations and individuals are standing up to extremism and the harm it causes

Organisations wishing to bid for support should have a track record of promoting communal values and tackling extremism, the Home Office said.

Further bids will be accepted each year over the scheme’s four-year lifetime.

Sarah Newton, minister for vulnerability, safeguarding and countering extremism, said: “We are Great Britain because we are a proud, diverse society united by values such as democracy, free speech, mutual respect and opportunity for all.

“Extremists threaten these values, promoting hatred and intolerance and causing harm to communities and individuals. This includes far right groups who encourage anti-Muslim hatred and anti-Semitism. It also includes those who deny women the same rights as men to education, work or justice.

“Across the country organisations and individuals are standing up to extremism and the harm it causes. As we work to build a country that works for everyone, we are determined to support them and, by empowering mainstream voices, drown out those who seek to divide us.”

Any organisation wishing to apply can do so throught the UK government website.
