Richard Rankin has urged Scots to Turn Up in Tartan for Macmillan Cancer Support

The star of a hit historical time travel show has donned tartan for charity.

Outlander actor Richard Rankin swapped his suit for a kilt as he launched charity event Turn Up in Tartan for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Richard, who plays historian Roger Wakefield, doesn’t get to wear a kilt in the smash hit show – which is known for its kilted characters.

So the Glasgow man was happy to don a kilt specially designed for Macmillan to promote the tartan-themed fundraising event.

He braved the rain alongside Macmillan fundraising manager Michelle Campbell as they urged businesses, schools and clubs to sign up.

Macmillan hope people across the country will wear tartan on St Andrew’s Day (Thursday 30 November) to raise money for the charity.
